On Episode 64 of Now, This is Podcasting! we discussed the armbands on Imperial Officers in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Most of them were rather esoteric in nature. While I was translating the armband for an Imperial Major, I came across this one:
That translates to TARKIN. Major Tarkin.
Is Major Tarkin just an Easter Egg for a character that might not even appear in frame during the film? Is he an emerging character? Was this band created by one designer without much input from the powers that be who can make such creative choices? Or does Grand Moff Tarkin’s family continue to serve the evil Galactic Empire?
I don’t have all the answers to that yet. But I can tell you one thing, the armband was created for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and someone wore it in the film.
To hear more about the translations of Imperial props, listen to the newest episode of Now, This is Podcasting! The translations will appear here very soon if you can’t stand the sounds of our chocolate voices.
More translations to come of weirder and more minor terms!
